Endemic to southern Mexico. Grow well in baskets with the lovely yellow (to mahogany brown) flowers hanging down like tiny boats. “The helmet shaped Gongora”
The genus has a wide distribution, from Mexico to Central America to Bolivia and Peru. About 145 species of Gongora found. The plants are characterized by long inflorescences with many strongly perfumed flowers. The ovoid pseudobulbs have prominent ribs and carry two to three thin-textured leaves at the apex. Best grown in pots or baskets that allow the inflorescences to hang down.
