DENDROBIUM –Dendrobium is the second largest genus after Bulbophylum with over 1600 species ranging through India, all parts of Asia and up into China and then out through the Pacific including Australia in the South. It is the second most common orchid genera in cultivation after the Cattleyas. Characterized by a cane-like, epiphytic and sometimes lithophytic, sympodial, pseudobulbs that can be any size or shape, with flowers that last for 1 day to months. Plants range from a few centimetres to several meters tall. It is a very diverse group and potting and cultural requirements need to be customized for each species individual environment. Dendrobium are generally easy and rewarding plants to grow and will succeed in any free draining mix. Most love to grow mounted – on a stick or even in a tree.
