EPIDENDRUM – Easy to grow and care for and flowers almost all year round. Needs plenty of light. One of the largest genera with over 1 000 species, widely distributed throughout the Tropical Americas from North Carolina to South Argentina and the Caribbean . Flower stems are terminal and often branched with many species producing flowers from the same stem for years.
It is distinguished by a slit rostellum and that the lip is united with the column creating a nectary tube that continues through the pedicel. Many of this genera have reed like stems but they also can have thickened psuedobulbs. Culture for this group is diverse according to the climates that they occur in. Most appreciate intermediate conditions, good drainage and an even watering and fertilizing schedule.
