Bulbophyllum – syn. Cirrhopetalum breviscapum . Burma, Thailand, Malaysia.
Hairy, dark maroon flowers. Lip cream, spotted maroon, with long hairs on the lip margin. We love this Bulbo – the close up of the face
looks like an ancient Indian chief’s face – all nose, teeth, hairy upper-lip and head feathers
BULBOPHYLLUM : With nearly 3000 species this is one of the largest genera in the orchid family with a widespread distribution. They grow well in high humidity, moderate warmth and some shade – good light is needed for flowering. Botanists are attempting to subdivide the Bulbophyllum genus into more manageable units. There are already more than 70 sections. Name changes pending.
