ORIGIN/HABITAT: Brazil.
The delicately fragrant blossoms are extremely variable in color, rather waxy, long-lived, face upward, and do not open fully. Sepals and petals vary from apple-green or yellowish to rich brown-red and may or may not be spotted or barred with chocolate-brown, dull red, or orange-red. Petals are usually more or less heavily marked so that they are sometimes almost completely red-purple in color. The lip, which is held uppermost, is white to pale purple and is usually barred with rich wine-purple on its long, tapering apical section while the concave central section and the very narrow basal claw may or may not be blotched or spotted. The column is usually white to reddish purple.
